While no new ZZ Top album is in sight, the artist has been road testing new songs during 2004 tour in Europe. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of ZZ Top energies, virtually a rebirth. ZZ Top’s debut, ‘Rancho Texicano: The Very Best Of (Remastered) (CD 2)’, does not fit easily into one genre. I greatly enjoyed this CD.
Pearl Necklace is a very catchy tune. Gimme All Your Lovin is a astounding, simple song by ZZ Top at the top of his game. Awesome song is really all that you can say about it. This song is like perfectly aged vintage bordeaux wine not a tequila shot. Got Me Under Pressure is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. Music of Sleeping Bag is gentle, never overbearing. Stages - This is a very lively song. Rough Boy defines beauty, yet is as unforgiving as an astringent stone. Velcro Fly is so unique, as each one of the songs is. This is one of those songs that musicians strive to write and create. Doubleback is ZZ Top’s best work in years. My Heads In Mississippi is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Viva Las Vegas, which shows, blatantly, how much ZZ Top has evolved as a singer. Cheap Sunglasses (Live) is a bit different from ZZ Top stereotypical stuff. Legs (Dance Mix) is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. This track is a great song that still never gets old.
