There is so much to love about The Decemberists, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Since The Decemberists last CD (The Crane Wife) on Blue Note Records back in 2006, I have felt a massive void in my life. There were many famous songs of The Decemberists available. The Crane Wife is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Opening track The Island:/Come and See/The Landlord’s Daughter/You’ll Not Feel The Drowning shows the best of The Decemberists. Listening to Yankee Bayonet (I Will Be Home Then) you can hear that The Decemberists has still amazing chemistry with band members. O Valencia! is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything The Decemberists released so far. Overall a nice softer song. When The War Came (5:06) - awsome. Shankill Butchers is amazing song though, very addictive. Summersong - I used to hate this song, but now it’s one of my favorites. Although The Crane Wife 1 and 2 is very melodic it is far from sad. Outside of the singles, my favorite song on The Crane Wife is Sons and Daughters.
