Since completing 1992’s ‘Drive’, R.E.M. fulfilled their contract with SixSteps records and where under no obligation to release another album. For older fans Automatic For The People will put a massive smile accross your face. R.E.M.’s debut, ‘Automatic For The People’, does not fit easily into one genre. R.E.M. is one of my favourite bands of all time.
Try Not To Breathe is kind of track that compels you to skip back and drink it in one more time before moving on through Automatic For The People. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight. Everybody Hurts - isn’t quite as powerful vocally, but has a beautiful melody. New Orleans Intrumental No.1 is a astounding song and it grows on you. This song may be the most meaningful. Monty Got A Raw Deal is possibly the best song R.E.M. has come up. Blew our minds when we first heard Ignoreland. Star Me Kitten is amazing work of R.E.M.. Man On The Moon is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined. R.E.M. must have run out of lyrics on the next track Nightswimming. Find The River had me crying as I was able to relate so well.
