seven years ago, Okkervil River briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “Unless It Kicks”. There is no doubt that Okkervil River has talent. This disc has all of the essential Okkervil River classics. If you love Okkervil River as much as I do, then Okkervil River The Stage Names is the CD for you!
I love the melodic melody of Unless It Kicks and to this day it makes me feel good. Hand To Take Hold Of The Scene, A is a medium tempo tune. In this song fans will recognize the unique vocals of Okkervil River. It’s very catchy and easy to get into which is what you want in a song. Girl In Port, A which is my favorite is a truly Okkervil River sounding song. You Can’t Hold The Hand Of A Rock And Roll Man is an upbeat song with a constant snare hit. Title Track is nothing short of a modern masterpiece. Although I prefer the faster paced music, I think John Allyn Smith Sails is my favorite song on The Stage Names.
