On Family Tree album, Nick Drake have renewed their membership in the ‘if it ain’t broke…’ school of songwriting. Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Nick Drake on ‘Come In To The Garden’. There is no doubt that Nick Drake has talent. This album is in perfect progression from Nick Drake!
This song is very powerful, its catchy melody will have you singing along in no time. Vocal harmonies in this track are great and song structure is just right. Poor Mum one of the most beautiful songs i’ve ever heard. Nick Drake is hitting on all cylinders in Winter Is Gone. All My Trials - Well, here we get a bit more meaning. Kegelstatt Trio is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. Nice and different song. Padding In The Rushes - Okay, I just talked about depth. Cocaine Blues is the funkiest number on the album. Blossom is the album’s biggest hit, I think. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Nick Drake. Black Mountain Blues is probably the highlight of the album. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Tomorrow Is A Long Time, which shows, blatantly, how much Nick Drake has evolved as a singer. If You Leave Me gives taste of what makes Nick Drake special as a musician. I have all of Nick Drake’s tracks and Here Come The Blues is probably the most his introspective effort. In Sketch 1 the music gets its power. Nick Drake has created something that grabs you by the heart and gets you moving. My Baby’s So Sweet is really the reason why I recommend buying Family Tree. Milk And Honey pretty much defines how I feel spiritually. Voice and instruments in Kimbie complement each other. Bird Flew By can be hardly overrated by any means; this is what Nick Drake is all about. Nick Drake allows each song to breathe and flourish. Strange Meeting II - My least favorite song on this album. Day Is Done stands out to me for its audacious melody and sheer beauty. I now have Come Into The Garden as one of my personal favorites. Way To Blue is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. Try To Remember - A nice song.
