Nowhere is this more so than on their re-working of Maximo Park on ‘Girls Who Play Guitars’. It has been ten years Maximo Park’ last studio CD, “Our Earthly Pleasures” which won Array MTV Music Awards and was nominated for album of the year. This is the first studio album from Maximo Park since bad diagnosis in 2007. This album is in perfect progression from Maximo Park!
Maximo Park is hitting on all cylinders in Our Velocity. Books from Boxes is a great opener for Our Earthly Pleasures. This song is dynamic and dramatic. Only one song from Our Earthly Pleasures named Karaoke Plays really got me. I believe Your Urge is one of the most exquisite, heartfelt songs ever written. The Unshockable is just a great song and one well worth taking the time to give it a good listen. If you are a Maximo Park fan, you will love By The Monument. Nosebleed is a exquisite sing-along. Maximo Park must have run out of lyrics on the next track A Fortnight’s Time. Sandblasted and Set Free is a romantic if not formulaic ditty. This track, in particular, has the kind of undeniably catchy flavor.
