Self-described as Indie with lots of words, Maccabees comes out swinging on perhaps his best album to date. When you buy a Maccabees album, you know exactly what you’re getting! Lead single “Good Old Bill” and “X-Ray” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. This album is in perfect progression from Maccabees!
X-Ray is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. All In Your Rows is the albums lead single as well as biggest hit. As always, Maccabees’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Vocals of Maccabees in About Your Dress really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. Precious Time is new, fresh, and hypnotizing. I like the agression and power of O.A.V.I.P.. Tissue Soldiers which is my favorite is a truly Maccabees sounding song. Song Happy Faces is actually a funny song. First Love is a catchy, up-tempo track that has influence of music streams without leaning too much in that direction. Mary is Maccabees’s best work in years. First time I heard Lego was on radio driving in my car and sonically it just sounded amazing. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Maccabees.
