There is so much to love about Loreena McKennitt, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. After seeing The Mystic’s Dream, I had to have a good Loreena McKennitt cd. twelve years ago, Loreena McKennitt briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “She Moved Through The Fair”. Nights from the Alhambra (Set I) is preety good and all the songs have a good meaning behind them.
Still going through Nights from the Alhambra (Set I) and coming to appreciate She Moved Through The Fair more and more with every listen. Song Stolen Child is actually a funny song. Other tracks are good but your best bet is to stick with The Mummer’s Dance. Penelope’s Song (4:25) Not one of my favorites, but for a lot of people this is one of their best songs. Nice and different song. The Bonny Swans is simple, dignified and effective, Loreena McKennitt refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Excellent vocals and musical performances. Caravanserai is a very good song maybe surprisingly better than you at first might’ve imagined.
