Bun B. Hear has compared writing for Dolly Parton’s new album to that on ‘The Very Best of’ - but has declared the lyrics will be even more terrifying. This -song debut EP shows the promise that Dolly Parton has. six years ago, Dolly Parton briefly lived up to their terrific name, with an insanely addictive hit single called “I Will Always Love You”. Another great offering from Dolly Parton.
I Will Always Love You without a doubt is the standout song of The Very Best of. I find myself hearing bits of Islands In The Stream (W/Kenny Rogers) here and there throughout my waking hours. Music of Jolene is gentle, never overbearing. Coat Of Many Colors is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. My Tennessee Mountain Home has a gorgeous instrumental sound, which lets Dolly Parton’s strong vocals come to the fore. As always, Dolly Parton’s lyrics are worth listening to again and again. Baby I’m Burning is a song you cannot help but think about at odd moments in your day. Love Is Like A Butterfly is an underrated song: I like its lyrics and melody a lot. I came to like Bargain Store. Overall a nice softer song. The song Everything’s Beautiful (In It’s Own Way) ending is my favorite… so catchy! Silver Threads And Golden Needles is so unique, as each one of the songs is. To Know Him Is To Love Him (W/Emmylou Harris And Linda Ronstadt) is beautiful, yet underrated track. In Why’d You Come In Here Lookin’ Like That the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation. Romeo is one of the best records ever. Tennessee Homesick Blues the elegant and beautiful song on the album is hard to describe. Only one song from The Very Best of named Dumb Blonde really got me. Simply the finest work ever from this multi-talented singer. Old Flames Can’t Hold A Candle To You actually sounds so joyous, that you can practically see a smile on Dolly Parton’s face.
