This sixteen-song debut EP shows the promise that Diana Krall has. After debuting at No. 1 last week, Diana Krall’s album The Very Best of Diana Krall falls to No. 2 with 762,000, a sales slide of 78%. It’s a brave and brilliant refocusing of Diana Krall energies, virtually a rebirth. Smart music for smart people.
Musically Peel Me a Grape is superior to other tracks in The Very Best of Diana Krall. Pick Yourself up is the albums biggest surprise. A great put together song. You Go To My Head (previously unreleased) presents the cool mix of instruments on The Very Best of Diana Krall. Lyrics of Let’s Fall in Love are precise and evocative. The Look of Love is the album’s biggest hit, I think. This is the kind of song I think of when I think of Diana Krall. Voice of Diana Krall in I’ve Got You Under My Skin is honest and guitar work is subtle and poignant. One listen to the sheer beauty of All or Nothing At All was all I needed. Voice and instruments in Only the Lonely (previously unreleased) complement each other. Let’s Face the Music and Dance is maybe the best thing the group’s ever done. The Heart of Saturday Night (previously unreleased) is amazing and different song. Song Little Girl Blue is actually a funny song. Fly Me to the Moon as a highlight of The Very Best of Diana Krall contains a ton of amazing melodies.
