There is so much to love about Damien Rice, starting with incredible harmonies, songwriting chops and stellar stage presence. Lead single “9crimes” and “Accidental Babies” start with near-whispers before kicking into giddily catchy, fuzz box-driven hollered hooks. Live Unreleased Singles is an amazing album, racked with beauty. If you want to hear real Folk, get this record now!
I came to like Accidental Babies. Baby Sister is a nice, innocuous song, and much better than anything Damien Rice released so far. Bottom Shelf - This one is lively and fun. Childish is the more seemingly obscure song on Live Unreleased Singles that bear up best to repeated listening. Creep(Radiohead cover) is a song that takes you on the journey before it reaches the conclusion. It is succeeded by an outstanding track, however: Desafinado, which shows, blatantly, how much Damien Rice has evolved as a singer. Face is a amazing, simple song by Damien Rice at the top of his game. Fool is a great song for a cosy night in when it’s cold and wintry outside. I listened to the opening track Grey Room and liked it a lot. No Damien Rice song has come close to capturing my attention as Insane did. Lonely Soldier has a fun tempo. Me, My Yoke, and I - A strong beat. Damien Rice breathes new life into the music in Once I Loved. Rootless Tree is a song that definitely grows on you and becomes an album favorite. In Sand the music gets its power. Vocals of Damien Rice in Sex Change really capture me and are set perfectly to the rhythm. The Blowers Daughters Pt II which is my favorite is a truly Damien Rice sounding song. Tongue - A catchy, upbeat tune. It’s such an underrated song. All of songs on Live Unreleased Singles and have something to say letting alone Wooden Horse.
