This twelve-song debut EP shows the promise that Common has. Since Common last CD (Be) on SixSteps records back in 2005, I have felt a massive void in my life. It’s natural for Common to take a stab at ‘Be’ considering her long-professed love for UB40. This is my first Common Album and i must say i am blown away.
Chi City is another strong production from Common. Lyrics of Faithful (Feat. John Legend and Bilal) are precise and evocative. Go (Feat. John Mayer and Kanye West) - another great track from the Be album. Common breathes new life into the music in It’s Your World (Feat. Bilal and Pops). In Love Is full palet of sound is used by Common to accentuate the presentation. Real People is simple, dignified and effective, Common refusing to over-emote, and demonstrating that less is more. Testify I just LOVE this mix! The Corner (Feat. The Last Poets and Kanye West) is perhaps one of the best tracks of the past decade. This song has very few things relative to that of it’s predecessor. In They Say (Feat. John Legend and Kanye West) the light shines equally on lyrics, vocals and instrumentation.
